FOUR TIPS FOR A CLEAN SCANDINAVIAN HOME

FOUR TIPS FOR A CLEAN SCANDINAVIAN HOME

What does it mean to have a clean look at home?

With a rising demand for space, especially in our tiny country, it is possible to maximise that space and create a cosy home with a clean look! Using minimal pieces of furniture at home, a clean Scandinavian look at home will bring to you the comfort we all yearn for after a long day or hard work.

“Have nothing in your homes that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

- William Morris, 1834

Every piece of furniture in your home would be one that is essential, functional and to your fancy. However, to keep the look clean and simple is the challenge here. We have came up with a few tips that worked for us, so try these for yourself & clean up your home if you’d like a clean Scandinavian look!

1. ROUNDED EDGES

Unlike pointed edges, rounded edges are gentler on your eyes, & adds a soft touch to your home.

Instead of using tacky corner protectors that ruin the aesthetics of your furniture, rounded edges are perfect if you have little ones running around the house.

Not only are they safer, but it also softens the look of your home. Still looking ever so sleek and clean, rounded edges are definitely the replacement of harsh pointed ones!

2. DECIDE ON A COLOUR SCHEME, & STICK TO IT!

Colours, colours & more colours! Of course, colours are exciting, and more often than not, we get too excited about colours whiling planinng our spaces at home.

Instead of merely picking out pieces you fancy at the first glance, remember to keep in the back of your mind the colour scheme that you have decided on. Sometimes, clashing colours may result in your home looking messier than you would like. However, if you are aiming for a clean look, start searching for furniture based on your colour schemes. We really enjoy our wood, and we believe that is the basics for a clean home, try it & let us know your thoughts!

For a clean and minimal look, we suggest using muted tones or monochromatic schemes. But hey, don’t just take it from us! Check out various sources like pinterest, Home & Decor, Expat Living, etc, for inspiration & keep those colours in mind!

3. INVEST IN PORTABLE PIECES

Space is slowly becoming one of the most covetted assets, and nothing feels better than having space that allows us to soak in the comforts of our homes.

Invest in pieces that are easy to manouveur or portable, so you are able to maximise and change up the space in your home!

The Valet Table from our HOLM collection showcases how portable pieces fit into our homes with ease. It is even multi-functional, doubling up as a table for your meals as you longue in front of your TV.

4. DE-CLUTTER YOUR HOME; MAXIMISE YOUR SPACE

Empty spaces are essential in maintaining a clean and minimal look in your home. Organize your home and don’t let the clutter get in your way.

Maximise the space and get rid of your clutter with functional and minimal storage pieces.

Rather than merely chucking books, ornamental pieces and plants loosely around your living room, invest in a sleek wooden shelve or divider, to tidy up your space for a clean outlook!

GET READY FOR NATIONAL DAY WITH THESE TIPS!

GET READY FOR NATIONAL DAY WITH THESE TIPS!

August is here – the month that gets everyone excited (and not just because of Music Bank)! The parade, the sudden rush of love for home and country, the National Day sales, the free 4G and free cable channels - all are things we look forward to this month (admit it, the free 4G is awesome). With just National Day just around the corner, here are some tips to get your home ready for that NDP party!

1. Add some red touches to your home for this celebratory week!

You don't need to go out and buy stuff (save that for Christmas presents); dig up those Chinese New Year/Christmas/Festive cushions to add a splash to your sofa.

(featured: Stiga shelf, Vila sofa, Koniska coffee tables, Kontur chair, Rond dining table, Plank bench)

2. Pick out your trendiest red and white ensemble.

If you don't have anything, just head to your nearest Giordano or HangTen store - we all know how big they are about National Day.

3. If you're just here for the shopping, National Day week is great for sales

Save moolah (so you can buy more on Foodpanda, lah) by looking out for practical steals!

(Just putting it out there - Scanteak's $52 specials are also around the corner. Check back on 8 Aug 2017!)

4. Check and double confirm!

If you love the parade but didn't get tickets - do your sound and visual checks on your AV equipment at home.

5. Be a little bit Kiasu.

Having a NDP party at home with friends and family is great - so everyone else will be doing it too! Have your Foodpanda/Deliveroo/UberEats app on standby and play fastest finger first. Order early so you don't end up waiting longer than usual for food.

But seriously though. Free 4G. Stream the parade la. In fact, stream everything.

TIPS ON CREATING A CONDUCIVE STUDYING ENVIRONMENT!

TIPS ON CREATING A CONDUCIVE STUDYING ENVIRONMENT!

Always distracted and wondering how to be in focus when studying? We were all once a student before, who tried different methods to see which worked. Here are some ways we believe will work!

1. STAY AWAY FROM YOUR BED

Don’t you feel like going into your bed after looking at this photo? Our comfortable beds are the most attractive, especially when we are studying.  Avoid your bed at all costs! Those times when we got bored of studying and decided to hop into our bed to rest for just a short while and end up falling asleep?  If possible, study at a place without your bed to focus better. However, it is totally alright to take power naps of 20 minutes just to recharge!

2. LISTEN TO THE CORRECT TYPE OF MUSIC

It’s fair to say that majority of us prefer to study while listening to music – be it the latest EDM hits or upbeat songs from Coldplay. Subconsciously, we will even sing with the pop music that we are tuning in to!Research has shown that classical music is the best music to listen to when studying as it’s peaceful and harmonious. Songs without lyrics such as background or nature music are great too, as lyrics are really distracting. Consider checking out Spotify’s Focus playlist for a wide range of playlists that could help you when studying!

    3.

    ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS

Tempted to reply your messages when you are studying? Turn off the vibration and put your phone away from you. Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat are especially distracting when you are studying. The ability to concentrate and focus largely depends on your ability to block out distractions!

     4. STAY ORGANISED

A messy table where you scramble to find a certain piece of paper is not advisable. Try to file your notes for easy reference. Also, only put the essentials which you need for studying – stationery, studying materials, water. Anything that distracts you should be put away!If you are looking for a new study table or shelf, SCANTEAK offers a wide range of furniture with storage spaces to help you compartmentalized your studying materials when it gets a little too messy!

    5. ESSENTIAL OILS TO ADD TO YOUR PRODUCTIVITY

Aromatherapy is a great way to help set the tone when creating a productive space. A scented ambience is always good for the mind. For example, rosemary oil can be used to boost memory, as well as increase mental power to aid in concentration.  Also, peppermint oil increases mental clarity and focus.Simply take a few drops and rub it on the back of your neck and ears.

    All the best with studying!
